Ultimate Boot CD
Continuing with broken-computer-revival theme, I found the Ultimate Boot CD, a CD that you can stick in your computer, boot from it, and start various tests to see which part of your computer is not working right. You can check your harddisks, CPU, RAM, monitors, and other parts using only one CD. The full list of included utilities is too big for this space but is conveniently located on its homepage. The monitor test is very useful when checking for dead/bright pixels when I buy LCD monitors or laptops--just boot from it and cycle through various colors and look at the screen.
