Noam Chomsky: Why it's over for America

"An inability to protect its citizens. The belief that it is above the law. A lack of democracy. Three defining characteristics of the 'failed state'. And that, says Noam Chomsky, is exactly what the US is becoming. In an exclusive extract from his devastating new book, America's leading thinker explains how his country lost its way."

Hmm, the three characteristics sound like Thaksin's administration in Thailand too...

Inventions I Want

  • A way to prevent the Sun from making my parked car very hot.
  • Humane way to lead insects away from human
  • Non-eye-poking, no-water-spilling umbrellas

Web Comics

  • Calvin and Hobbes
  • xkcd
  • Surviving the World
  • Russell's Teapot

Questions I Have

  • What is an evolutionary advantage of consciousness? To give purpose for the body to replicate the genes or to plan complex things?
  • Where are the Laws of Nature stored? How does an electron know how to behave? How does a rock know how to fall?
  • Can we view unicellular -> multicellular life as Nature discovering new unit of building block and gene intepretation? A new interpreter perhaps? How did it happen?
  • What affects the mutation rate? How good is the molecular clock hypothesis?
  • What is the number of organisms that are needed for evolution to work?
  • How can we translate general problems for genetic algorithm?
